Quote of the Week: The Tour -- Rest for the Weary

I'm having withdrawals. Today is a rest day for the Tour de France and there is no new racing on TV. But it has got me thinking about the importance of rest....

When I work with athletes I frequently have to remind them of the importance of recovery days. Taking time off, or at least having an easy training day, is not something that comes easy to many athletes. And yet, it is one of the most important things an athlete can do for his or her physical and mental preparedness. Which leads me to this week's quote:

“Rest when you're weary. Refresh and renew yourself, your body, your mind, your spirit. Then get back to work.”
-- Ralph Marston

So at some point during the course of this week, give your body and mind a little break. And by all means, make it a great week!
