Quote of the Week: Beating the Odds

How can you not love a good winning-against-the-odds-story? And what better illustration of that than this year's Kentucky Derby?

For those of you who missed it, this year's winner of the Kentucky Derby was a horse named Mine That Bird that was a 50-1 shot for crossing the finish line first. Lots of racing enthusiasts were upset that he was keeping "better, more accomplished" horses and trainers out of the race. He was dead last going into the last turn before he roared past his rivals to win the race.

Which brings me to this week's quote from the jockey that rode Mine That Bird to victory.

"It's not the first mile that decides it. It's the last one."
